Spring to Summer 2026
This is the season when in nature everything is growing and coming into abundance. Every day we can notice a change outside. The herbs in the woods seem taller every day, new leaves appear everywhere, trees are blossoming. The birds sing louder and the warmth of the sun day by day is becoming more intense.
We notice the changes in ourselves as well, welcoming the sun and the signs of the new year in nature everywhere, we feel our spirits rise, our energy lifting, we want to make plans for the season ahead of us.
At the same time, however, we find ourselves in our day to day life with its commitments, its demands on our attention, its general noise and speed.
It is a balancing act to hold the calls of our surroundings sufficiently at bay so that we don’t get too much thrown hither and thither and can quietly continue to grow, to experience, to really look, to experiment and digest. For this we must train our minds to constantly return to what is now, in this particular moment and trust that in living mindfully growth and development occur.
Yoga practice emphasizes that to live mindfully we need to train our mind, we need regular practice and detachment. Practice is abhyāsa, training the mind to come to the moment, using the tools of yoga, as breath and movement. Detachment is vairagya, the ability to step back from a sense of urgency, of immediate answers, of results, through adopting a fresh mind, a beginner’s mind, looking at things as if you see them for the first time.
Yoga thus can become an anchor, a touchstone to check in with oneself, an hour of focus, a ritual to breathe, ease and stretch the body, an opportunity to strengthen body and mind and an opportunity to nourish the stability we need to meet the demands of life.
We will begin this term with a series of classes which pick points of stability in our body, for example the feet, the hips or the spine. They can serve as a support and a hold form where to cultivate, thrive, build and become.
